Spectrophilia (The Tesla project)

Spectrophilia is an event initiated by the choreographer Andros Zins-Browne, bringing together theater-maker Diederik Peeters with Stina Nyberg for a shared event of erotic ghost stories.

Theater-maker Diederik Peeters and choreographer Stina Nyberg are teaming up for a night of (erotic) ghost stories, told by disembodied voices, and a live electric soundtrack designed to conjure up the dead. Brought together by their medium, choreographer Andros Zins-Browne, the artists will present a series of short events that are currently haunting their ongoing projects.

While Diederik’s project Apparitions and Stina’s The Tesla Project bear little resemblance on the surface, their underlying interests in the late 19th/early 20th century as a time where science and magic were more closely intertwined, and where belief and technology held a more symbiotic relationship than they do today, seemed to resonate.

After several meetings discussing these shared interests inevitably meandering into conversations about the occult, electricity as an expression of spirituality, and voices from beyond the dead – the artists decided to present three unique events together. Two offshoots that explore their fascinations in formats that neither artist has ventured into before.

The first edition was performed at the festival Almost Summer at BUDA in Kortrijk, Belgium, the 21st June 2018 with a second edition at MDT in Stockholm, 7+8 November 2019.
